Abstract:
Today, social networks (SNs) play an important role in the development of society. This is underpinned by the rapid growth they have experienced in recent years and their welcome for the deployment of a myriad of activities, including education. However, despite all the advantages they offer in the academic field, they present serious disadvantages that cannot be ignored: from lack of privacy to social isolation. For this reason, this paper presents OPPIA, an educational SN that includes three learning models: self-learning, tutoring learning and collaborative learning. Thus, being a SN, it allows each individual to share information, with the difference that it focuses fully on education. In addition, it deploys sporadic learning networks (SLNs), which connect students with experts in any subject matter, without the need for prior contact. To evaluate the performance of OPPIA, students responded to questionnaires, whose results corroborate its use as an educational tool.
